El-Genes was founded in 1947 by Elmo Davenport and Eugene Piquet. The name, El-Genes, was created from combining both of their names.

El-Genes started out as being a radio sales and service shop. Elmo Davenport kept ahead of technology, and by the time TV was widely available, he was already familiar with TV's and TV repair. El-Genes soon added TV's and appliances to its list of services. At this time, El-Genes went from sharing business space with a service station, to moving behind a childrens dress shop, and later expanded and moved to its' present location.

Since then, El-Genes has added computer sales and service to its line. It has been providing computers to the upper valley since 1982. El-Genes is currently co-owned by Price Davenport and David Davenport.
